About Jim Conroy

Jim Conroy knows how special the commercial districts of Troy, Rensselaer County and the greater Capital Region are – and the growing business community has figured that out, too.

Jim is a commercial real estate generalist who specializes in the Troy sub-market, which includes historic Troy Properties, Rensselaer County and the Hudson Gateway communities of Cohoes, Waterford, Watervliet and Green Island.

In his 13 years in real estate, Jim has represented sellers, buyers and tenants in every kind of commercial real estate transaction, including shopping centers, car dealerships, and the repurposed Troy Record, Kelly Clothes, Old Brick Furniture, Thompson Drug Company and Marshall Rae buildings. He also has helped his clients adapt old buildings for a new use, including the Geier & Bluhm Building, which turned into the Capital Roots Grow Center. His expertise also extends to mixed-use and multifamily buildings.

Troy is among the Capital Region areas undergoing a rebirth. A strong and stable local economy, combined with an educated population base, has encouraged the arrival of start-up companies and high-tech businesses intending to capitalize on the area’s research and educational resources. Jim has worked with a number of the young, enthusiastic professionals who have settled in Troy, seeking to take advantage of the city’s historic architecture, walkable downtown and vibe to grow their businesses.

Working to bring new life to old Troy buildings is a natural progression for Jim, who served as the city’s deputy mayor from 1996 to 2003. In that role, he held administrative responsibility for the departments of public works, water, sewer, recreation, planning cord enforcement and more. With that background, he has knowledge of working through things such as environmental and structural inspections and negotiating legal or financial approvals. This sometimes includes providing help to the buyer or seller with zoning, code compliance or other governmental approvals.

Previously, Jim also worked as vice president of the Center for Economic Growth in Albany and as assistant to the county manager in Schenectady.

Jim Conroy has received a number of accolades and awards from Berkshire Hathaway Blake, REALTORS®. In 2015, he was the top commercial sales associate in sales volume, and the following year, he led the company is commercial sales volume and transactions. Jim can be reached at 518-464-0870 ext 2211.
